Koblog is a fork of Bludit, and was created for several reason. To explain why I did fork bludit and now maintain koblog, we must go to the beggining

Why this project

I created koblog after using for a time bludit, in order to create the blog experience I wanted for my websites. I wanted to bring some features like custom emojis, better indie-web integration, and needed some features for my blog (custom pronouns, etc). Koblog aim to be Bludit, but tailored for my needs.

I wanted a blog engine that :

  • Is on blogging, and not a full-on CMS.
  • Is lightweight.
  • Is still powerfull enough for my needs.
  • Have many "fun" and "social" features like on plateforms, but self-hosted.
  • Is queer-friendly and queer-oriented, with fun stuff for us.
  • Have absolutely no AI code inside.
  • Have absolutely no slop/AI features.
  • Might make access to the IndieWeb features easier.
  • Try to have good accessibility.

When I started the project, Bludit wasn't maintained for several month, so I decided to fork it to create my own dream blog engine. Nowadays when i'm writing this article, it started to be maintained more, but with a lot of added AI code, which I disagree with.

Why indieweb (or small web)

I believe that the internet should be for the people, and not under the control of a few big plateforms. There are a lot of manifesto about why the small web, the personnal web, matters, but I'll add my own here : I don't want a dead internet, build by and for bots. I want a weird, funny, cool internet. I want bad websites, but were people can express themselves.

Koblog exists for me to have a voice on the internet, and I hope other will be happy to use it to get one, to have their own garden on the web. Koblog think that the needs of an autistic trans person are more important than the need of a big company.

Differences with bludit

  • Koblog doesn't have an API.
  • Koblog doesn't have a equivalent of Bludit Pro.
  • Koblog isn't 100% compatible with bludit plugins.
  • Koblog have several custom features, like content warning, custom emojis, Post Kinds, pronouns, and a global media gallery (but many are possible on Bludit with a plugin)
  • Koblog doesn't use AI in any way or form.
  • Koblog implement microformats on its own themes.
